Day 4 — Social Proof

⏱️ Time needed: 30–45 minutes

🎯 Goal: Add a testimonials section that builds trust and credibility.

People trust other people more than they trust marketing copy. That’s why every landing page has testimonials, reviews, or logos of companies that use the product.

Today you’re adding social proof — quotes from (fictional) users who love your palette generator. In a real project, these would come from actual users. For now, we’re practicing the layout and design pattern.

Social proof works because of a simple psychological principle: “If other people like this, maybe I will too.” On a landing page, it usually appears as:

  • Quote cards with a name and role
  • Star ratings
  • Logos of companies (“Trusted by…”)
  • Usage stats (“10,000+ palettes generated”)

You’ll build testimonial cards today — the most common and visually flexible format.

Below the "How It Works" section, add a testimonials section. Include 3 testimonial cards with:
Card 1:
- Quote: "I used to spend 20 minutes picking colors. Now I generate a palette in seconds and get back to designing."
- Name: "Sarah Chen"
- Role: "Product Designer at Figma"
Card 2:
- Quote: "The lock feature is genius. I can keep my brand color and explore combinations around it."
- Name: "Marcus Rivera"
- Role: "Freelance Brand Designer"
Card 3:
- Quote: "I've tried every palette tool out there. This one just gets out of the way and lets me work."
- Name: "Aisha Patel"
- Role: "UI Designer"
Each card should have:
- The quote in a slightly larger, italic or serif font
- The person's name in bold below
- Their role in a muted, smaller font
- A subtle card background with rounded corners
- Quotation marks as a decorative element (large, faded, behind the text)
Add a section heading: "Designers love it" and arrange the cards in a row of 3 on desktop.

Refine the testimonial cards:
- Add a small circular avatar placeholder (a colored circle with their initials) to the left of each name
- Make the quotation marks very large (like 80px) and position them as a decorative element in the top-left of each card, with low opacity so they don't compete with the text
- Add a subtle top border or accent color to each card (maybe using one of the palette generator colors)
- Ensure all three cards are the same height even if the quotes are different lengths

Style the testimonials section:
- Use a white or very light background
- Center the section heading and add a subtitle: "Join thousands of designers who've simplified their color workflow"
- Add a row of small, muted "star" icons (★★★★★) above the heading to reinforce the positive sentiment
- Add comfortable spacing between the cards (about 24px gap)
- On mobile, stack the cards vertically with space between them

In a real project, you’d use actual testimonials from real users. For this exercise, we’re practicing the pattern — the layout, the visual treatment, the placement on the page.

If you ever ship this landing page for real, replace these with genuine feedback. Fake testimonials erode trust faster than no testimonials at all.

For extra credibility, add a simple stats section:

Above or below the testimonials, add a horizontal bar with 3 stats:
- "50,000+" with the label "Palettes generated"
- "12,000+" with the label "Designers using it"
- "4.9/5" with the label "Average rating"
Display them in a row with generous spacing. Make the numbers large and bold, with the labels smaller and muted below. These are fictional numbers for practice.

  • How to build testimonial card layouts
  • How to use typography hierarchy within a card (quote → name → role)
  • The concept of social proof and why it matters on landing pages
  • How decorative elements (large quotation marks, accent borders) add visual richness without clutter

You’ll embed your actual palette generator into the landing page as a live demo. Visitors will be able to try it without leaving the page.

🎯 Checkpoint: You should have 3 testimonial cards in a row with quotes, names, roles, and decorative elements. If the cards look plain, try: “The testimonial cards feel flat. Can you add a subtle shadow, a decorative quotation mark, and a colored top border to give them more visual presence?”
